Professor David Patterson, 乐鱼体育 Health consultant cardiologist and Helicon Health chief clinical officer, has led his team at Helicon Health to win a Design Council award.
Helicon Health is recognised alongside nine other companies developing inventions that could help people stay independent for longer as they get older or develop debilitating illness. Helicon Health will join Design Council抯 MedTechSouthEast accelerator programme, which gives teams a practical, thorough understanding of how to use design to fast-track the commercialisation of their innovations.
They will receive exclusive mentoring from Design Council抯 leading design associates to develop HeliconLiveLong - an online tool to help care teams manage the health of frail elderly people. These patients often have multiple health conditions and the electronic patient record at the centre of HeliconLiveLong will help interdisciplinary care teams manage the health of elderly people with multiple conditions more effectively and easily.
Professor Patterson said: 揥e are thrilled to have received this award and have already learned a lot from a 揵oot camp� event at the Design Council. Our HeliconLiveLong approach will build on and expand our innovative stroke prevention services with HeliconHeart which embraces atrial fibrillation and anticoagulation. This 揹istributed� package of care is hosted by 乐鱼体育 Health and delivers care from 35 sites in north central London and Hertfordshire; it is now being adopted across the UK.�

MedTechSouthEast has highlighted the tech talent we have in Britain, and we need to increase the convergence of tech and design to create usable, accessible, human-centred devices and systems that will help us all retain our quality of life as we age.
揟his programme will teach our winners how the application of design can develop and shape their ideas to become practical products that people want as much as they need. It抯 the combination of innovation and design that creates technology which can truly revolutionise people抯 lives, as well as help save money for our public services.�
